At one point, the storm was moving at nearly 50 mph in the North Shore area.
Southern New Hampshire at the border of Massachusetts was also slammed by the quick-moving storms. Cleanup has began in New Boston after several downed trees closed roads in the area.
More downpours are expected to move through the region in the evening hours, but meteorologist Mike Wankum said the storms should be gone by 10 p.m.
On the horizon is drier air and clear skies for a wonderful end to the weekend.
