REVERE, Mass. — A Cambridge man is under arrest after police said he broke into a restaurant in Saugus and led police on a chase into Revere.

Robert Silvia broke into Santoro’s Sub-Villa on Essex St. in Saugus around 3 a.m. Sunday, Police said.

A burglary alarm alerted police to the break-in. When they arrived, they saw the glass doors of the shop had been smashed, and a U-Haul truck was parked outside the shop.

A short time later, police said they noticed the truck pull away and tried to stop it. The driver did not stop for police, leading to a pursuit.

The chase ended in Revere, after the driver struck a Revere police cruiser and then crashed into Gulino’s Auto Body shop on Broadway. The fire department had to be called because the truck burst into flames.

Silvia was arrested on scene. The officer who was in the cruiser that was hit is expected to be OK.
