BOSTON — A man facing attempted murder charges after he broke into a Melrose home and attacked a family inside will be in court Wednesday.
John C. Ferreira, 54, of Melrose, was being sought after he reportedly forced his way into a Vinton Street home on Friday. Once inside, Ferreira allegedly attacked two people, police said.
Police said Ferreira knew and targeted the victims.
Ferreira was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; two counts of kidnapping with serious bodily injury; armed assault to rob; home invasion; larceny of a motor vehicle; attempted murder; and mayhem.
Ferreira was arrested early Tuesday afternoon in Westborough, police said.
An officer saw a red Toyota Corolla driving on an abandoned road and ran the plate, which showed the vehicle was reported stolen during the Friday home invasion.
The officer then followed Ferreira to Lyman Street off Route 9, where he was arrested.
Prior to his capture, police warned the public that Ferreira was armed and dangerous.
