MILTON, Mass. — The rollover of a truck carrying 19 tons of cheese on an exit of Interstate 93 South continues to cause traffic delays Thursday morning.
The crash happened at about midnight on the exit 10 ramp on I-93 South. The truck completely blocked the ramp, and the roadway had to be shutdown in both directions at Squantum Street for a time.
It could take several hours to completely remove the truck and fully reopen the roadway. MassDOT said the roadway will need to be completely shutdown for a time Thursday morning and again Thursday night to complete the cleanup.
The truck pulled down power lines, knocking out power to a nearby neighborhood. Eversource was working to restore power.
The driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.
The driver, whose name has not been released, will be arraigned in Quincy District Court Thursday.
The truck was hauling 38,000 pounds of sliced American cheese. The cheese was being transferred to other trucks to be inspected.
